It would appear that the 2024 budget has been slashed by 2 million dollars, leaving the proposed property tax increase down to 3.45%. Let us hope that this is the final number for homeowners in town. Although things did not go well for Mayor and Council with their plans regarding the Art Gallery, they are still exploring their options. Was our Mayor and Council ahead of the pack? Remember when they wanted a bylaw passed about drug use in public places? They took a lot of flack. Now however, the BC Government says new legislation will try and deal with "public safety with empathy and support for people dealing with drug addiction". The decision by Mayor and Council to keep their wages the same as 2022 must not have been an easy decision. It very well may have been the right one, but not easy.
